ABC Family, you are one fickle network. You bring us great repeats of Gilmore Girls, Whose Line, brought us the wonderfully original Kyle XY, the funny 10 Thinks I Hate About You, the newly obsessive Pretty Little Liars, but then you give us the unspeakably horrendous Secret Life of the American Teenager and now Huge.
Huge, premiering tonight at 9/8c on the network is certainly a welcomed effort and not nearly as unwatchable as its lead-in but not likes of Gina Torres can bring the fat camp-based drama back. Starring Hairspray‘s Nikki Blonsky as an overweight girl sent to a camp that tries to whip her into shape and turns out just to be another high school-esque popularity contest is nothing to write-home about. Clichéd writing and acting just adds to the weirdly shot pilot that includes as I said before the can-do-no-wrong Gina Torres. I expect better ABC Family (P.S. Still upset over Kyle XY but Pretty Little Liars makes up for it almost). Check out a preview below if you are still interested and if you want to just see the pilot it airs tonight at 9/8c…. (more…)
Greek is a fun show, a funny show, a smart show, but it is one that I forget to watch, and because of that I have not been caught up with the show. I hope that DVD’s like Greek: Chapter Four, will help me on that journey as it is now available for you to buy!
The fourth chapter is 12 episodes from the end of Season 2 (the previous three are also available), and mark the introduction of Jesse McCartney who comes in as a highly sought after item in the greek community.
The DVD features a couple of bonus features including a music video by the guest star himself, bloopers, recap that I found quite helpful, and the really fun feature “At World’s End,” the final episode of the season is also chronicled in a day-by-day encounter of creating it.
Greek, which stars Spencer Grammer, among others as the lead Casey, is one show that creates college life well, and unfortunately does not get the ratings it deserves, but the praise it does. It was recently renewed for a surprising 4th season for the fall, and it is garnering more buzz than ever, and the DVD is a great get for any collection or gift. Check it out now in stores, I know I will because I need it.
In case you were not aware, the ABC Family drama airs on Mondays at 10/9c!
Tonight brings really the first day of the fall TV season! Check out the best and the not so good on tonight:
Trevor Donovan on 90210
90210 – 8/7c on The CW The big talk of the CW lat season was how they remade 90210 and will it work? Did it, not in my opinion and that is shown by the low ratings and my opinions of the second episode airing next week. That episode is really bland and almost unwatchable but their are some notable changes that could reflect a positive direction. First and foremost, the focus on the parents which for me are more interesting than the kids. Second, Liam is so better than Ethan and glad to see him good. Third, the addition of Trevor Donavan as new surfer hottie Teddy is the wrong move, he acts like he is in this thirties and that is because he is. Overall, I am not excitied but do not give up all hope.
Melrose Place – 9/8c on The CW See my review of the first two episodes here, but just to remind you that you have to check out the Melrose Place premiere tonight. The first new broadcast premiere of the fall is so worth watching. What MP does good is what its lead in does not, it has good acting and good stories that are adult and interesting. The plot weaves in the original shows characters like Sydney and Michael like they are brand new and I only hope that for Jane (Josie Bissett). Katie Cassidy is the must watch in the premiere as well as the even better second episode airing next week. Check it out!
Big Brother – 9/8c on CBS The end is near. Tonight, a live eviction with Julie on a special night as the beginning of the last three part HOH. This season has been more watchable than the last couple but is by far not up to par with the greats. Go Michelle (even though it is such a long shot)!
Sons of Anarchy – 10/9c on FX I have heard only praise about the second year FX drama. The cast is well put together, the visual is different and intriguing, and the story is compelling. I have yet to get around to check out the show beyond the not so great pilot I saw last year. But it is rare to find such great Cable fare on a otherwise baron landscape on Tuesdays this fall.
10 Things I Hate About You – 8/7c on ABC Family Are you still watching, are you returning to check out the season finale tonight? Let me know what you think of the show!
Here is a quick reminder for a new summer show. Tonight at 9/8c on ABC Family, a new sports teen drama premieres untilled Make it or Break it following the season premiere of The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The show cronicles of the lives of teenage gymnasts who a tend a high profile training gym and are getting reading for Nationals. There lives are interupped when a new girl comes in and wrecks the dynamic for the three girls.
The show stars among others Candace Cameron Bure of Full House fame and Peri Gilpin (Ross from Fraiser). The remaining cast is Chelsea Hobbs, Ayla Kell, Josie Loren, Cassie Scerbo, and Zachary Burr Abel.
I saw the pilot a while back and while I could predict what was going to happen from the first five minutes but the show treats the cliches nicely and actually turns out to be a sweet teen drama. It is worth checking out for a try but do not expect too much.
