Watching Way Too Much TV For You!

Mentalist_Oslip_2DSkew_LLast year the biggest new series of the year came as a little bit of surprise, average over 16 million viewers CBS’s The Mentalist took the most successful new show award and after a full season 1 you can most definetly see why. The series stars Simon Baker as a mentalist Thomas Jane, someone similar to a psychic. He is now a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation with a team lead by Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and a bunch of other great headstrong agents. The team runs an investigation against Red John, a searial killer that killed Jane’s wife and child. The show weaves in that storyline gracefully in all the 23 episodes in the first season.

The DVD set will be released next Tuesday September 22nd from Warner Brothers and is a great looking box set. First off it comes it great bright packaging and all the discs are not in one of those flimsy cases that tear of the DVD’s fall out it is in a nice big plastic case that keeps all the DVD’s nice and controlled.

The special features are very well produced starting with “Evidence of a Hit Series” which shows how and why the show was successful and getting the inside dish about all the characters including commentary from Simon Baker and creator Bruno Heller. The piece which runs almost 30 minuntes provides all the information from series ideas to the hit it has become. Also on the DVD is “Cracking the Crystal Ball: Mentalist vs. Psychic” which shows real Mentalists and how they are captured on screen. Insightful, and intriguing. Plus, a fun gag reel that shows that the guest stars are really getting some fun stuff to do with the crazy cast. Also, throughout some episodes is hidden reveals that flesh out the character which are great when re-watching your favorite episodes.

The 6-disc collection is out on Tuesday, go get it and check out season 2 on the 24th at its new day and time Thursdays at 10/9c (The season premiere is great, more on that on the 24th).
